Dysart

John McDouall Stuart View holiday apartmentDysart is a picturesque former burgh which lies on the Fife coast, east of Kirkcaldy.  Dysart is the fourth Townscape Heritage Initiative to be delivered in Fife, and in addition to the THI funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, major funding to deliver the regeneration programme also came from Historic Environment Scotland’s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).

The five year regeneration programme (2009 – 2014) includes demolition of flats to make way for attractive new social housing, refurbishment of the historic Tolbooth and Town Hall, repair of the B-listed St Serf’s Tower and improvement to public spaces.

John McDouall Stuart, the first explorer to cross Australia from south to north, lived in Dysart, and works to convert his house to a holiday apartment were completed in May 2013.
