There is also a sofa Bed is available in the living room area, travel cot is available for either room (taking occupancy up to 8)

Entry into the apartment is street level, where directly a staircase will lead to the first floor. On the first floor there is a magnificent living/dining area with a large bay window, and large round wooden dining table. A modern kitchenette is in the main living space and has all the amenities required for your stay including a fridge, freezer, dish washer, kettle, toaster, microwave, cookware/baking equipment have also been supplied. There is a SMART TV within this area and a cupboard with a selection of games, puzzles, books and DVDs to keep everyone entertained.

Back into the hallway there are several small staircases broken up by original landings all leading up to the second floor. The second floor is host to the two bedrooms. Please note the only bathroom/ toilets within the property are located in the ensuites. Every piece of furniture purchased for Cupar Burgh Chambers has been carefully thought through, and Fife Historic Buildings Trust were helped by a recognised expert in Scottish furniture, who advised on key pieces appropriate to the Georgian period, some originally made in Cupar.

Cupar Burgh Chambers, is the ideal base for your holiday – be it a relaxing break with friends and family, history lovers visit to the Kingdom of Fife, St Andrews and further afield, or an adventure break enjoying Scotland’s beautiful scenery, there is so much that you can do within Cupar and the surrounding areas. The holiday apartment near St Andrews is perfect for families to come together under one roof. Or perhaps a group of golfing friends, looking for a base to get in as much golfing as possible.

Fife Historic Buildings Trust completed the restoration of the Cupar Burgh Chambers in 2018. By converting this long vacant and at risk Grade B listed building, an important local landmark has been saved and given a new lease of life, allowing visitors from across the world to come and stay in Cupar.


Cupar Burgh Chambers is a comfortable and traditionally stylish two-bedroom self-catering apartment in a beautiful historical building, located in the heart of Cupar. Perfect for family get-togethers, golf breaks in St Andrews, exploring the Kingdom of Fife and for visiting a beautiful Scottish city, whether it be Dundee or Edinburgh. Guests are located in the centre of Cupar with direct access to a wide variety of independent shops in town as well as a short walking distance to the beautiful Cart Haugh Park. The nearby railway station provides easy rail access to Edinburgh and Dundee. Cupar is ideally located a short 15 minute drive to St Andrews, the home of golf; however there are 45 golf courses throughout Fife, so lots of opportunities to visit different towns and villages, if golfing is your passion. For those wanting to try something different, Cupar holds a fascinating historical past as it was once the County town of Fife, so why not stroll along the streets and take a walk back in time.


The market town of Cupar has all the amenities that you would require. Within short walking distance there are various chemists, banks, clothing shops, bakers, cafes, pubs and lots more. Cupar also has a Tesco, a few minutes away, or there are mini supermarkets closer. There are many highly rated restaurants and eateries throughout Cupar and the surrounding area, if you are looking for something a little special The Peat Inn in Cupar is a Michelin-starred restaurant serving high quality meals. Cupar Heritage helped to procure some historical photos and various prints for the cabinet display within the holiday home in Fife.

Further Afield

Further afield, in the famous seaside town of St Andrews you can take part in many activities, with historical sites such as St Andrews Cathedral and St Andrews Church, a beautiful walk along the sea front visiting these fascinating sites. There are two beaches in St Andrews, West Sands and East Sands, each with car parking available and a beautiful spot to relax on a summer or for a winter walk. With various museums, outdoor activity options, distilleries, restaurants, bars, botanical gardens and even an aquarium, there is a lot to do in this beautiful and historical town. A must visit for those with a sweet tooth, Jannettas Gelateria, it serves beautiful gelato in many flavours all made on site (yum!).

If you are looking to take in some more culture, you can visit Dundee or Edinburgh via train, the railway station is a six minute walk away from the apartment. Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, has a variety of historical sites, museums, shops, bars, restaurants, and has many beautiful parks to walk around. The City of Dundee, based right on the River Tay is certainly worth a visit. In September 2018 The V&A Museum opened its doors and has been a part of the Dundee waterfront’s £1 billion redevelopment. Other attractions include the RSS Discovery and the Verdant Works, The RSS Discovery was a royal research ship built in Dundee and launched in 1901, returning to Dundee permanently in 1986 after spending many years in Antarctica. The Verdant works, began production in 1833 and was a very famous mill house producing jute and other textiles, now a fascinating attraction built in the original building, visitors can see and hear what it was like for the workers in 1900 and step back in time.

Location was excellent. Very comfortable residence and fantastically well equipped kitchen. Staff were very helpful and all communication was prompt. It’s an atmospheric place to stay with lots of steps up to the bedrooms which are tastefully restored. The main road is a tad noisy from around 5am on weekdays. – October 2020
A beautiful and quirky apartment with stunning decor and style, situated in the heart of Cupar. Very clean and comfortable, and very well-appointed. (Hint – take slippers or flipflops for wearing to walk up and down the old stone stairs between the floors! ) – September 2020
Really gorgeous place to stay in the centre of Cupar. 5 mins walk from train station or you can use the private car parking space nearby. You are surrounded by cafes, gift shops, restaurants, supermarkets, everything you could need. The main room is huge but still manages to be cosy, and feels grand without being imposing. It has a very well equipped kitchen and more than enough pans, dishes, glasses etc, all of a high standard. Everything, right down to the engraved slate coasters on the bedside tables, is fantastic quality throughout the apartment. The heating was really effective, lots of easily controllable radiators plus underfloor heating in the bathroom if you want it. The bed in the red room is enormous and super comfy. (Small note, when big trucks went past outside the bedside table nearest the door vibrated and rattled a bit, but leaving its door just open stopped it! 🙂) All in all, highly recommend you stay here, we really hope to go back again one day. It does have a LOT of stairs, that won’t stop us visiting again but is worth keeping in mind if you have any mobility issues or for children. And there was some road and street noise, not surprisingly for the location, but that didn’t go on too late into the evening and didn’t really bother us. It was worth it to be so central, and we still felt like we were in our own completely private space above the town. Perhaps more towels would be good, but we managed – and some shorter dram-sized glasses would’ve been nice, but then tall glasses just saved more trips away from the sofa to top up! Any negatives are far outweighed by the positives basically! – March 2020

A wonderfully rehabbed and restored historic space, repurposed for daily living The flat was sparkling clean, had wonderful appliances and amenities. The hospitality basket was a welcome touch, and the fresh flowers in the window, fresh fruit in the dining table bowl, and milk in the fridge were manna from heaven. The showers were so very warm and inviting, and the flannel duvet comforting indeed. I booked this flat for my two university student children and myself for move-in weekend, and it was absurdly convenient for the purpose, and a relaxing spot to return to each evening. The Lidl and Tesco are quite convenient, as well, making daily life simple and easy. Beautiful apartment in an ideal location. Fabulous historic apartment right in the centre of town overlooking the main streets. We were visiting our daughter at St Andrews University and this was a great location to allow us to do this and we also managed a visit to Edinburgh. The apartment is exceptional. In a period building, the high ceilings, big windows and colour scheme makes it really stand out. Such a stylish and amazing space with practically every facility and item you’d need. Some great touches like the smart TV and an amazingly thoughtful welcome basket including Tunnocks tea cakes really made us feel welcomed.
