Beth’s Recommendations of where to go when staying in our holiday apartments
Published 29th June 2018
The team at Fife Historic Buildings Trust decided it would be nice to let all of our guests know our personal suggestions for places to go and where to eat whilst they are visiting our holiday apartments. Our current holiday apartments Kinghorn Town Hall and John McDouall Stuart View have visitors from across the world come and stay in them throughout the year. This is the list put together from Beth.
We are blessed with so many walks throughout Fife and Scotland. Regularly I walk the coastal path between Burntisland and Aberdour (but I live in Burntisland so it’s a natural walk for me). The Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy is also quite nice with a pond, playgrounds for children. Loch Leven is perhaps my favourite overall, nice easy path, with a lovely farm shop and café at one end.
This is the toughest category for me, I do love my food and love trying new places. The Wee Restaurant in North Queensferry, Navadhanya by Haymarket in Edinburgh, The Ship in Kinghorn and Venachar Lochside (as mentioned in point5). I cannot choose which one I like best.
Scottish National Museum in Edinburgh, I love visiting here and is great for all ages. There is so many fascinating artefacts and artwork, as well as interactive sections for children. It is free entry and can easily walk there from Edinburgh Waverly.
Village/town to visit:
South Queensferry, I love walking around South Queensferry and looking at the bridges, there are different shops, restaurants to eat and has a great holiday village feel walking around. To get here via public transport the stop is Dalmeny on the Fife – Edinburgh Train, and is a 10-20 minute walk depending what route you go.
(Place to visit) further afield:
Venachar Lochside, Callander: Callandar is a beautiful place to visit with a variety of unique shops, cafes and restaurants. My favourite place is Venachar Lochside – it is a beautiful drive and just outside Callander a wonderful restaurant based on Venachar Loch. The restaurant is only available for lunches (and some special evening meals). The quality of food is incredible, and is why they have won so many awards. I got married here because of the beautiful location, but the food won me over in all the visits after (advisable to book as can be quite busy throughout the week and weekend)
