Burntisland Open Days
Burntisland Old Parish Church Summer Open Days 2026
Published 27th August 2026
As our feasibility study continues, we have enjoyed working with Friends of Burntisland Old Parish Church (FoBOPC) to throw open the doors and welcome visitors into the church on three different occasions in the last few months.
On the 23rd of May, a fun-filled programme of events was planned for all visitors, including tours of the historic church, a local piper dressed in full regalia, live organ performances, children’s arts and crafts, as well as refreshments and an amazing selection of sweet treats supplied by local bakers. Over 130 people came through the doors on the day, many for the first time, who were amazed by the historic, artistic and architectural value of the building. It was also an opportunity for locals to share their history and memories of the building, with many having enjoyed special occasions in the church, such as baptisms and weddings.
Across the 3rd and 4th of July the church was open again – this time to demonstrate and display the preliminary findings of the Feasibility Study which we are conducting along with Community Enterprise. After weeks of hard work, four potential future scenarios for the church were presented. Over the two days, 141 visitors were welcomed in to hear about this important work and share their opinions and feedback.
The success of these open days demonstrates the value this important building holds for the local community, and further afield. A strong preference for keeping the building open for community use was communicated in the feedback and comments received. Work continues on identifying options to secure a sustainable future for this nationally significant building.
