Cupar Burgh Chambers Open Day Recap
Thank you to our Cupar Burgh Chambers Open Day Visitors
We were delighted to welcome visitors to the Cupar Burgh Chambers Open Day on Sunday 25th February 2018. This was an opportunity for the local community to see inside the refurbished building and to hear about the extensive restoration works. The formally disused building is a priority project in the ongoing Cupar CARS/THI scheme and we would like to thank Historic Environment Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund for their generous funding. Works to the building exterior included repairs to the stone façade, the roof and the clock tower.
Internally the space has been converted to accommodate two en-suite bedrooms, with repairs to the original features such as the ornate plaster cornice, the windows and timber panelling. Cupar Burgh Chambers will be open from June/July 2018 as a self-catering holiday apartment in Cupar, Fife, bringing tourists from across the world to this historic Scottish market town. Once furnished, the beautiful Georgian apartment will be able to sleep seven people in comfortable surroundings.
During the Open Day
We welcomed 76 visitors to the apartment, with guided tours to highlight the conservation and repair works and to explore the beautiful interior. We had many repeat visitors from the first open day held in September 2016 before the repair works began, and even some who knew the building when it was still in use as the burgh council chambers and as a space for community events such as dance classes and a film club. It was fascinating to hear everyone’s stories and get their feedback. At present there are no further open days planned as we will soon be welcoming our first holiday guests, but we will keep the local community up to date if there are future opportunities to see inside the building. On behalf of the Fife Historic Building Trust team, thank you to everyone who visited and for your kind donations on the day.
